Welcome to HALCHEM VIII

We take great pleasure in inviting you to participate in the 8th International Meeting on Halogen Chemistry (HALCHEM VIII), which will be held at INUYAMA INTERNATIONAL SIGHTSEEING CENTER (FREUDE) in Inuyama city, Aichi, Japan from 12th to 15th September, 2017.  HALCHEM VIII follows the 14 years old tradition of the symposia, which originates from the first one held in 2002, when a small group of fans of halogen chemistry came to Sardinia, Italy, by invitation of Professor Francesco Devillanova to take part in the first meeting devoted to this group of elements.  Since then the next 4 meetings have been organized in the south of Europe [in 2004 (HALCHEM II, Sardinia, Italy), 2006 (HALCHEM III, Ioannina, Greece), 2008 (HALCEHM IV, Barcelona, Spain), 2010 (HALCEM V, Cagliari, Italy).  The HALCEHM VI moved to India and was held in Bangalore in 2012.  Then the HALCHEM VII returned to Europe but moved to Czestochowa, Poland in 2015.  The HALCHEM VIII will be held at Inuyama, Japan in 2017.  This is the first HALCHEM meeting held in East Asia.  Traditionally, HALCHEM meetings have been organized for a smaller circle of participants (~30–40 researchers coming from several countries), which allowed efficient interactions between the participants and created a unique atmosphere for the foundation of future collaborations.  In addition, the policy to give each research group an adequate time for oral and poster presentation has been the key to the success of the meetings.  As a consequence of these biennial meetings, numerous scientific collaborations and exchange visits have been initiated between various groups.   HALCHEM VIII will follow a similar policy and you will have an adequate time for the presentation (invited lecture (30 min), designated lecture (20 min), and poster presentation (70 min x 2)) but we hope that we will be able to welcome a much larger number of participants.  As in the previous meetings, contributions from scientific community working in the area of halogen chemistry (such as synthetic and theoretical aspects, spectroscopy, supramolecular chemistry, halogen bonding, hypervalent halogen compounds, atmospheric chemistry, etc.) are welcome.
